Introducing the RoCo, your personal robot air conditioner

You've heard about the 'Women's Winter' and the resulting issues caused by improper community air conditioning. Perhaps you've already discovered the allure of owning a sophisticated portable air conditioner that serves as a charger, light, and Bluetooth speaker.

However, this latest piece of news may put an end to both of those possibilities, since this is the most luxurious personal air conditioner we've seen thus far.

The RoCo is an acronym for 'Robot Air Conditioner.' It works by monitoring, not the air in the room, but your own particular ambient temperature, and then creating your own temperature-controlled atmosphere that can be entirely distinct from the rest of the space.

Not only does it achieve this by cooling you down, but it can also function as a heater if you become dangerously cold. It operates by blowing air in a precise direction, at a precise temperature, and at a precise velocity.

Researchers at the University of Maryland are developing the new personal air conditioning unit. They've been working on it for several years and are ready to show us what they've accomplished thus far.

It utilises wearable technology – the type of technology seen in devices such as the Fitbit – to monitor an individual's personal temperature and other data, which it then uses to calculate the ideal environment for that individual.

The implications for a building's energy expenses are enormous - why waste money heating or cooling a full room when you can heat or cool only the sections that are occupied? That is perhaps why the United States Department of Energy spent $2.5 million in the project.

All of this implies that you may buy a RoCo by 2019, and we'll make sure we have some in stock.
